| Chelation therapy is used throughout the world. It was
initially approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1953 to
treat hypercalcemia (too high a calcium level), other heavy metal
poisonings and metastatic calcification.
EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid)
which is the active ingredient in any chelation. It is also known by
the name EDATHAMIL. It is a synthetic amino acid that was first
discovered in an effort to find a substitute for citric acid in
1934-35. We use it in blood tubes for preservation of the blood
after collection. It is also found in foods by catalyzing the
oxidation of fats in foods. EDTA reacts with these elements by
forming tightly bound complexes to prevent decomposition. www.geocities.com/chadrx/edta.html.
EDTA is a United States Formulary (U.S.P.)
drug. It is approved to be sold and therefore its safety and
efficacy are assumed. The NIH has posted a $30,000,000
funding to investigate the efficacy and safety of EDTA chelation
therapy in individuals suffering from Coronary Artery Disease.

The protocol most widely used is that
recommended by the American College for Advancement in Medicine
(ACAM). We use the ACAM protocol in this office. We have been doing
chelation for over twenty years with great success from reduction of
heavy metal toxicity to other aspects of medicine. We have helped
patients with a variety of medical problems such as diabetes,
stroke, toxicities, deficiencies, heart attack patients, blood
pressure problems, some cardiac arrthymias- all types and stages of
disease. In our experience diabetic ulcers respond quite well to
chelation in combination with other medical support rendered at this
office. We do not claim chelation to be a cure all but we have
personally seen great benefit to numerous patients over the many
years that we have been using chelation.
Chelation normally takes a minimum of thirty
(30) treatments to bring the benefits that most patients are
expecting. While Medicare absolutely does not pay for chelation or
anything related to chelation, some insurances pay for the chelation
and related lab work and physical exam. It very much depends on your
insurance coverage that you or your employer chose.

regarding chelation is ACAM at www.acam.org

Some Positive Comments on
Chelation
A letter from Tom Oommen, MD, Department of
Pharmacology, Fr. Muller's Medical College in Mangalore 575 002,
India in the clinical practice of Alternative Medicine, pages
115-116,volume 1, number2, summer 2000 stated in part "....We have
concluded that EDTA chelation therapy is a cost -effective
alternative for coronary artery and peripheral vasculardisease...
But as a clinical pharmacologist and the principal investigator of
the study (on EDTA chelation), when I consider that
the negative effects of bypass surgery and angioplasty are not
disclosed as honestly as we have for chelation, I strongly feel that
the only limitation to continuing the program is the vested interest
of certain professional groups and the fact that(possibly because of
them) EDTA is not easily available for IV administration in this
country."
The Board of Medical Examiners in Nevada
unanimously decided not to outlaw chelation in 1998 (Las Vegas
Review-Journal, Friday, January 30, 1998, Ed Vogel) The California
Medical Board discussed chelation therapy in 1994 and 1995 and
decided not to seek legislation against it ( email to my
receptionist- February 27, 2002). Linus Pauling, PhD in his forward
to " A textbook on EDTA Chelation Therapy states that"...chelation,
however is far safer and much less expensive than surgical
treatments for artherosclerosis...EDTA chelation therapy makes good
sense to me as a chemist and medical researcher. It has a rational
scientific basis, and the evidence for clinical benefit seems to be
quite strong.... The scientific evidence indicates that a course of
EDTA chelation therapy might eliminate the need for bypass surgery.
Chelation has an equally valid rationale for use as a preventive
treatment....."
In a hearing before the Committee on
Government Reform, House of Represenatives, 106th Congress, First Session on March 10, 1999 at http://www.house.gov/reform , the committee
heard testimony regarding the issue of "Cardiovascular disease: Is
the government doing more harm than good? EDTA chelation therapy".
Multiple doctors and others offered testimony regarding their
experience with chelation and the benefits that their patients
received. In this report on page 4 is stated that " in 1978, a US
District Court rejected the actions of the Food and Drug
Administration when they sought an injunction against a physician
that administered chelation. The court characterized the FDA's
action as, " ... an attempt to compel physicians to practice
according to State-sanctioned protocols". Furthermore, the
court determined that the weight of the evidence submitted to it
supports the practice of chelation...."
We agree with the benefits and positive
information published regarding chelation. Throughout our experience
we have had few and very minor adverse effects but significant
benefits noted by the patients. EKGs improve, walking distances
improve, some hair even grows thicker ( we don't know why), patients
frequently need less medication and are happy with the way they feel
on a daily basis. This may not be scientific
but improvement is what all of us look forward to in our search
for medical care.
Give us a call and see for
yourself.
LETTER OF
REOMMENDATION
Dear Dr. Resk:
I am confirming the positive
effect Chelation Therapy has had in helping me finally free
myself of this dibilitating desease. (coronary artery
disease).
I had a doppler ultrasound test,
which confirmed an 80% stenosis in my right cartotid artery and 50%
stenosis in my left carotid artery. I was fortunate.... that for the
first time ever I was being offered a pro-active means (Chelation)
to fight this disease that had already cost me a year in recovery
(from triple bypass surgery) and several thousand dollars of mine
and my co-payers money.
I am sold on the tremendous
positve impact that Chelation Therapy has had on my arterial health
and will be committed to taking it as long as I live.
