Tommy Thompson
(AGAIN) sides with "Health Freedom" on MAJOR
issue...
Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim
Bolen
April 17th, 2003
On January
27th, 2003, I wrote an article that said "I've got the BIGGEST
story in North American Health Freedom, EVER. Here it
is." We'll, now I've got an even MORE important
story...
It's no secret that the
official health care system in North America has failed. It is the
third largest killer of Americans. But, what's being done about
it?
The North American Health
Freedom Movement has been working on the problem for years, trying
to get changes in the way health issues are officially dealt
with. When we were dealing with the Clinton Administration,
our pleas were falling on deaf ears. Not so, with the Bush
Administration.
Tommy Thompson, George
Bush's Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS), has AGAIN come through in favor of the North American
Health Freedom Movement on a significant health issue. It may take a
little time, but whether conventional medicine likes it or not,
Americans are going to have REAL health care available to
them.
In January I said "The
conventional medicine stranglehold on health care has been broken -
period. It was done in Health & Human Services Director
Tommy Thompson's office on January 16th, 2003 when Thompson SIGNED
the approvals to use a new billing code system called ABC Codes in
HIPAA transactions.
I told you the Bush administration was on
the side of "health" before. Some of you doubted. Here's
another example..."
Let me explain. Prior to
Thompson's action, the world of health practitioners had been
dependent, for billing, on two basic systems. One is called
the "Diagnostic Codes," and the other is known as the Physicians'
"Current Procedural Terminology or CPT® codes." The
World Health Organization (WHO) owns the rights to the "Diagnostic
Codes." The American Medical Association (AMA) owns the rights
to the ""Current Procedural Terminology or CPT® codes." Each
gets paid money each time the code is used.
The WHO
"Diagnostic Codes" are simply that - diagnostic codes. But it
was the CPT® codes that became the ISSUE in health care.
Simply, the AMA would NOT issue codes for alternative health
care. Congress told them. Federal Judges told
them. They didn't listen. What was happening, of course,
was that the AMA was controlling, through its codes, or lack of
codes, what actual procedures would be paid for, and which ones
would NOT be paid for.
That's over. The AMA has
lost. January 16th, 2003 was their "Waterloo." Enter,
from stage left - ABC Codes.
Understand this. Thompson
signed off on the first part of the project - a two year sort of
pilot program, where they see how well it works. It's up to
YOU to see that it works well... There is a 60 day sign-up
period. The clock is running.
Health practitioners -
GET INVOLVED IN THIS RIGHT NOW!
There is a website you need
to visit to read more about this. Read ALL of it. I've
been on the phone with the ABC Codes project people yesterday, and
today, at length. They'll have their website updated for the
information you need to be PART of this VERY soon.
They have
gained the approval of not only Tommy Thompson, but every agency of
"standards" in the United States. They have over 4,200 codes
available right now. You've got to go to the website www.alternativelink.com
right now.
You're welcome..."
What did Thompson do this
time? He's done a couple of things. (1) Thompson, after
seeing how many people signed up for this two-year pilot program
(almost 10,000), increased the sign up period for another 60
days.
The ABC codes project
directors had been assembling their operation so far below the
health radar, that most health activists, and practitioners, were
unaware of the availability, and unaware even, of the project.
It caught most health leaders by surprise. When the project
was first approved by Thompson on January 16th, 2003, the sixty day
sign-up period wasn't quite enough to both tell health leaders about
it's availability, and sign people up - even though almost 10,000
jumped in during the period. When this was brought to Tommy
Thompson's attention - he simply extended the sign-up period through
midnight, Thursday, May 29, 2003. To sign up yourself,
or for more information, go to www.alternativelink.com.
(2) The Bush Administration
knows how bad health care is in the United States, and is giving the
problem a high priority. Besides this ABC codes move, Bush,
and Thompson, are going out into the United States Health Community,
and getting advice, and advisors, on how to solve the US health
dilemma. In short, we in the North American Health Freedom
Movement now have direct access to the Bush Administration - and
we're using it. I'll tell you more about this
later.
Stay tuned...

Medscape - Your
Credibility is on the Line...
An Open Letter to
MedScape
Saturday, November 13th, 2004
Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim
Bolen
It's
hard to find legitimate resources for health information on the
internet, these days. So much available is just drivel.
The North American Health System is badly broken. It's hard
for consumers to get information they can trust. The key to
evaluation of information provided is simple. A consumer
simply asks "WHO is providing this
information?"
With
Medscape, a simple look at your Editorial Board, by a consumer, will
instantly reduce your credibility to ZERO.
Why? As your first listed "Editor" you
have North America's top health CRACKPOT, delicensed
and failed MD Stephen Barrett, the
author of the questionable website quackwatch.com.
Barrett, we know, along with his website, is currently
named, among other things, in a racketeering (RICO) case in Federal Court in Colorado.
He's
also being sued for his nefarious activities in Ontario, Canada.
In
California, he's been FORMALLY discredited in Superior Court, and in
a PUBLISHED Appeals Court
decision, where he was described, by the three Judge panel, as
"biased, and unworthy of credibility."
Yet, YOU have him, on your website, as your
number one Editor. Which, of course, speaks to YOUR
credibility.
Barrett, we also know, was forced to give up
his medical license in Pennsylvania in 1993 when his part-time
employment at the State Mental Hospital was terminated, and he had
so few (nine) private patients during his last five years of
practice, that he couldn't afford the Malpractice Insurance premiums
Pennsylvania requires.
In a job market in the United States, where
there is a "doctor shortage," Stephen Barrett, after his
termination by the State mental Hospital, couldn't find
employment. He was in his mid-50s at the time. He should
have been at the top of his craft - yet, apparently, he couldn't
find work.
In a California Court case, former Barrett
peer, and fellow Board Member of the National Council Against Health
Fraud (NCAHF), William Jarvis PhD, testified, under oath, that
Barrett and Robert Baratz conspired to use the NCAHF, without Board
permission, as a Plaintiff in over 40 cases in California, where
Barrett and Baratz were to testify as "expert witnesses," and
get expert witness fees. The NCAHF Board was never
consulted.
One of those cases
caused the NCAHF to be saddled with over $100,000 in legal fees
awarded their victim - and the NCAHF doesn't have the money to pay
that debt. In fact, the NCAHF is SO DESPERATE for funds it is
being run out of a cardboard box in the back room of Baratz's
Braintree, Massachusetts hair removal and ear piercing
salon.
Those type of cases Barrett involved the NCAHF in were
considered so heinous that the people of California just passed an
initiative (Proposition #64) banning this kind of lawsuit for all
time.
Barrett, in the
Canadian case, has
formally admitted, according to Canadian law, to a number of
situations put to him by the Plaintiff,
including:
"The sole purpose of
the activities of Barrett & Baratz are to discredit and cause
damage and harm to health care practitioners, businesses that make
alternative health therapies or products available, and advocates of
non-allopathic therapies and health freedom."
"Barrett has
interfered with the civil rights of numerous Americans, in his
efforts to have his critics silenced."
"Barrett has
strategically orchestrated the filing of legal actions in improper
jurisdictions for the purpose of frustrating the victims of such
lawsuits and increasing his victims costs."
"Barrett failed the
exams he was required to pass to become a Board Certified Medical
Doctor."
Yet, YOU hold Barrett up, with your other
editors, as though he were someone of substance. How insulting
to your other editors.
How insulting to American consumers.
I suggest you remedy
this situation. The Internet needs health information it can
trust... Stephen Barrett saps your
credibility.
